  1. We’ve found a policy with Progressive, of whom I am not a fan. However, we can always switch.

Because we are not Hawaii residents and are only visiting, from an insurance point of view we can not be classified as living aboard. This is important because I am told live-aboard insurance is very difficult to find in Hawaii.

A marina uses a different criteria, but I believe because we will be in transient moorage, we can not be classified as living aboard by the marina either. We’ll see.

We’re planning to leave San Diego Sunday. Weather promises to be pleasant the entire way… we’ll see if the weather keeps its promise. Those who are superstitious will point out that I just spent a bunch of money on a Storm Sail, hence no storms.

  2. They don’t cover Hawaii yet call themselves “Boat US”, not “Boat North America” or “Boat Continental US Only”??? I guess they can call it “Everything’s Covered”. It just another bogus, lying corporate name.

My own experience with GEICO was similarly disappointing. They advertised and marketed, until one day I broke down and asked for a quote. I answered 100’s of questions about my home and autos. Finally I asked them if my tractor was covered, because it was kind of expensive. They said “lawn tractor?”. I said, “no, 4WD compact tractor”. They freaked out, and wouldn’t offer me a policy at all.
(Best GEICO repellent I ever discovered!) Every other company in the world would cover it as long as it wasn’t driven on public roads. Mine stays in my yard.

I’m sorry to hear about that. Insurance companies are scum. If only you were a large corporation and could self-insure.
